Early on Mariani painted urban scenes, theaters, cafés, and crowds, often with a slightly ironic eye. Then the sea happened. From the 1890s on, he became known for his coastal paintings, especially women at beaches and promenades. These weren’t mythological nymphs or decorative props. They’re modern women, dressed, self-contained, and very aware of the space they occupy. In this painting she looks like someone who has stepped just far enough away from other people to hear herself think.

This miniature oil painting reproduction is printed on archival canvas and paired with a handcrafted frame made using a mold from a 19th-century antique. Finished in-studio to capture the texture and patina of a real vintage frame. All the beauty of an heirloom without having to inherit it.
