Syracuse (Architectural Fragment) by Jan Ciągliński (1910) captures the golden architecture of Sicily in warm Mediterranean light. Rather than painting the city as a postcard view, Ciągliński focused on a single architectural fragment - a sunlit corner that feels both ancient and alive. He belonged to the early wave of Polish Symbolists who traveled through Europe chasing color and atmosphere, and this work shows that sensibility in full force: painterly brushwork, shifting light, and a sense that history itself is glowing through the walls.

If you’re expecting something lightweight and forgettable, this will probably surprise you. The canvas is archival, the frame is a plaster relief cast from a mold made from a rare antique frame, and everything is put together by hand. It has a way of settling into a room like it’s been there for years.

Aged gold with a real metal finish applied in the mold for a warm, heirloom feel. Finished with hand-buffed antique wax for a museum-quality low luster.
Classic black with pigment mixed directly into the plaster for a deep, matte look that won’t chip or flake.
• At 1.6 lbs, it has a satisfying bit of weight to it and feels solid rather than delicate, with pre-installed hanging hardware so it’s easy to hang.
