Meet Blondine: lost princess, reluctant rule-breaker, and full-time resident of the Forest of Lilacs. She's pictured here in a rare moment of calm with her two enchanted caretakers- Bonne-Biche, the world’s most elegant doe, and Beau-Minon, a cat with royal energy and zero patience for nonsense. Originally illustrated for Old French Fairy Tales by the Comtesse de Ségur, this scene feels like something out of a dream you half-remember from childhood… except the dream also comes with talking animals, moral tests, and suspiciously gothic curtains.
Virginia Frances Sterrett was one of those rare artists whose illustrations feel like they were pulled directly from a lucid dream - delicate, eerie, and otherworldly - and all this while working under crushing health problems. She wasn’t a mass-market illustrator - she was a sick, fiercely talented young woman working against time, and that energy bleeds into the images.
✷ HANDCRAFTED DETAILS
Not mass-produced, and not especially interested in pretending to be. Each one is assembled by hand using archival materials and a plaster relied frame cast from a mold of a rare antique original. There’s something about it that feels settled, like it already knows where it belongs.
• Archival textured art paper (museum-quality, fade-resistant).
• Plaster relief frame, hand-poured and finished in a vintage patina. Cast from a rare antique original and unique to this studio.
• Made with Hydrostone plaster, a mineral-based material rather than petroleum-based resin. It’s biodegradable and doesn’t stick around like plastic.
• Two finishes available:
Aged gold with a real metal finish applied in the mold for a warm, heirloom feel. Finished with hand-buffed antique wax for a museum-quality low luster.
Classic black with pigment mixed directly into the plaster for a deep, matte look that won’t chip or flake.
• At 1.6 lbs, it has a satisfying bit of weight to it and feels solid rather than delicate, with pre-installed hanging hardware so it’s easy to hang.
