Summer Shades by Louis Maurer c.1859, published by Currier & Ives is basically how I do summer. I don’t like the heat, I don’t like the sun, and I believe the ideal warm-weather activity involves a nap, a tree, and maybe a river if it’s close enough that I don’t have to move. The shepherd here gets it. He’s in full retreat from the sun, horizontal under some trees, surrounded by his flock, some random cows, and a dog that’s also clearly off-duty. It’s quiet, serene, and nothing is expected of anyone. If there’s a better way to survive July, I haven’t found it.
✷ HANDCRAFTED DETAILS
This piece doesn’t come together quickly, and that’s kind of the point. Archival canvas, a solid plaster relief frame, and a mold of a rare antique frame all play a part. The end result feels less like a print you bought online and more like something you stumbled across and decided you weren’t leaving without.
• Archival canvas print with satin varnish (museum-quality, fade-resistant).
• Plaster relief frame, hand-poured, and finished in a vintage patina. Hydrostone plaster is made from mineral-based materials, not petroleum, and it’s biodegradable instead of persisting like plastic resins.
•Two finishes available: Aged gold, created with a real metal finish applied in the mold for warm, heirloom vibes, or classic black, with pigment mixed directly into the plaster for a deep, matte look that won’t chip or flake.
• At 2 lbs, it has a satisfying bit of weight to it and feels solid rather than delicate, with pre-installed hanging hardware so it’s easy to hang.

This is a gorgeous item exactly as described. I was shocked at the weight of the item being heavier than expected. Shipping took a little longer than expected but going through customs can do that at times. Overall a quality item.

I have never seen such amazing packaging! It was like I was opening a gift to myself. I love the picture and can’t wait to find a special place for it. The whole thing is just exquisite. Even the back is finished off beautifully! I highly recommend buying from this artist!!
