Standing Dancer by Isaac Israels (c.1934). Israels got access to sketch dancers backstage at The Scala Theatre, which sounds glamorous until you realize he mostly painted them looking mildly bored in great outfits. And honestly, that’s the charm. Standing around in silk slips and elaborate costumes like it’s just another Tuesday.
The print is a small-scale reproduction of the original painting, printed on archival canvas and set in a handcrafted frame made using a mold from a real 19th-century antique. It’s finished by hand so it looks properly aged, like something you might find in your great-grandmother’s attic if your great-grandmother was very chic. Choose between aged gold or black, depending on how dramatic you’re feeling.
